Serving Looks: Certified Tennis Girlie

Tennis has always been more than a game for me. It’s a movement, mindset, and style. Whether I’m hitting the court for a match or hosting a DFW Black Tennis meetup, fashion is how I show up, confidently, creativity, and unapologetically.

From the elegance of Wimbledon whites to the bold statements of Serena’s catsuit at the French Open, tennis has long been a runway in motion. It’s a sport where performance and personality collide, where what you wear can empower your place.

For Black women in tennis, fashion is more than aesthetics, it’s visibility. It’s showing up with braids under your visor, gold hoop earrings that glisten in the sunlight, and outfits that reflect heritage and hustle. It’s rewriting the rules of what tennis should look like and who it’s for.

As a former collegiate athlete and current Wilson brand ambassador, I’ve seen firsthand how fashion gives players, especially women of color, permission to take up space. It’s about being functional and fly. And yes, it’s possible to do both!

Off the court, tennis-inspired fashion is having a major moment. And I’m here for it. From pleated skirts and crisp polos to sporty sneakers and retro visors, tennis culture is showing up everywhere. It’s not just a trend, it’s a vibe that blends athletic energy with effortless style. Whether I’m running errands or heading to brunch, I love incorporating tennis-inspired pieces into my look, because the game isn’t just something I play, it’s part of who I am.

Representation matters. And so does style. When you step on the court and feel confident in what you’re wearing, it affects how you move, how you play, and how you show up. Tennis fashion isn’t just clothes, it’s part of your power.

Tips for Serving Your Own Tennis Style

  1. Mix Traditional with Trends: Pair a classic tennis skirt with a graphic tee or crop top.

  2. Own your palette: Go beyond whites. Try bold prints, neon tones, or even all-black looks for a modern edge.

  3. Layer it up: A sweater over your shoulders paired with a tennis dress. Love to see it!

  4. Accessorize with Intention: Visors, wristbands, layered necklaces, tennis bracelets, or even nail art can elevate your court style.

  5. Choose Functional Fashion: Comfort and movement matter. Look for breathable fabrics and supportive fits that help your game.

  6. Express You. Your style should reflect your personality. Whether you’re vintage-inspired, streetwear-savvy, or minimalist, wear it with confidence.

Tennis and fashion will always be intertwined, from center court to sidewalk. So whether you’re smashing forehands or showing up to DFW Black Tennis meetup, let your outfit speak volumes.

Because in this game, you don’t just serve tennis balls

You serve looks.
